You will know how important it is to be protected when your hands need to hit the pavement at speeds of 20 to 50 km an hour while you have to break a fall, because you're tire gave out, and lost its grip, on sand in a corner. I'm definitely shallow, but as I'm about to hit 65 years of age, I was pretty pleased that without really aiming to do so, I set a new record going up a steepish (7.3%) climb today, one I've done at least 100 times before. It's also early in the ride, when I'm never really warmed up.
September legs are the best legs.

Do other #cyclists experience the phenomenon of the roadside washcloth? Okay, this one's more of a handtowel, but still . . . for the more than two decades I've been #cycling, I have always observed discarded/dropped/lost washcloths along the roadside. I always document the first roadside washcloth of the spring, but after that there are too many to catch them all.

After a mere 12 (!!) years, my #Specialized Comp #cycling shoes are giving out – or, at least, they're losing their little heel pads. I could probably keep riding in them but they've served 10s of thousands of miles (without ever aggravating my tendonitis, which is miraculous). New shoes on order from my local bike shop. BUT: the new shoes mean I need to go to a new pedal system. Been running on Eggbeaters for nearly 20 years; gonna try SPDs again.
SomēBike shop just called and say my wheel (the SR-3 stock wheels that come with Giant Contend bikes) are bent and need to be replaced.
