Bandera Crater is a large cinder cone that erupted approximately 10,000 years ago, creating a 23-mile lava flow & a lava tube system that includes an ice cave. The ice cave is a collapsed lava tube with natural, perpetual ice, the oldest layers of which are over 3,400 years old.

Rare photographs from 1963 show a disappearing Ireland, captured by German photographer Diether Endlicher. These black-and-white images, now displayed at the Irish embassy in Berlin, depict a pre-modern Ireland with boatmen, fishermen, and women transporting milk by donkey cart. Endlicher, now 85, rediscovered the photos in his attic and was honored for documenting Irish life. He traveled to Ireland at 22, capturing scenes on the Aran Islands. Endlicher later covered major global events for The Associated Press, including the Olympics and conflicts worldwide. He reflects on the risks of his career and the importance of bearing witness.
