Road cycling season opener in chilly winds but gloriously sunny weather 😎

Not entirely surprised to discover all my cycling gear has shrunk while in storage over winter. 😖 Particularly around the midriff 😄

Feels pretty great to be out on an effortlessly rolling bike, though. Here's to hoping for a spring, summer and autumn of great cycling 😊

I haven't ridden with a #bikecomputer in years – my last one failed, didn't feel like shelling out hundreds for the feature-laden modern ones. But I finally gave in this week and got a relatively inexpensive Bryton 650 (no subscription, OpenStreeMaps, works with the Bryton tail light radar I got last year), and I have to say: knowing your speed is good, and it does not suck to have a map handy sometimes. This will push me this year. #cycling #roadcycling #roadbike

As a mountain biker, you take risks but you're in control of your risks. In road racing it's so much about positioning and the risk is completely out of your control. You put yourself in a position in the peloton and hope for the best, that nobody in front of you crashes. That took quite a lot of mental work for me to overcome.

I've been a still photographer for decades, but have never had any affinity for video. 1000s of pictures of our kids, almost no videos. But we just bought an Insta360 camera to capture #cycling rides, #kayaking, #hiking, etc., and I'm really enjoying it. Still working out how to edit to make it interesting to others, but I really enjoy looking at my favorite routes after I've done them.

Ich weiß nicht ob's meine Filterblase ist, aber ich merke auf der Straße, auf Strava und auf Insta, dass es immer mehr Frauen zum Rennrad fahren hinzieht.

Sehr schön. 🥰

Irgendwas ist passiert, das den Sport aus dieser kack elitären Ecke holt, in der er vor ein paar Jahren noch fest steckte.

Selbst diese furchtbare Materialschlacht normalisiert sich langsam, seit die grossen Volumenhersteller gut ausgestattete "Einsteiger"-Rennräder zu einem Preis anbieten, der sonst der Mittelklasse vorbehalten war.

Public service announcement from professional cyclist Tibor Del Grosso: just ask before you start following someone out on the road. It's the polite thing to do. Be safe, be mindful, don't be a creep.

The pros attract this kind of behaviour but the advice works exactly the same for any person or group you encounter on the road: want to ride along? Just ask.
