One thing that gives me solace in all of this—in the #pandemic, #ClimateCollapse, and #RisingFascism—is the idea of the #FinalGirl in #horror. She's the character who takes the threats seriously when no one else does. She's often young but "wise beyond her years." She doesn't get distracted by adolescent pursuits like parties and dances and pretty dresses, though she may want to have those things. She's often initially dismissed as weak. But unlike the seemingly stronger, smarter, and more capable characters, she survives.
I think those of us who are still taking #Covid19 precautions, who are taking #ClimateChange seriously, who are warning about rising #fascism, who are trying to stop #BookBans in schools, who are in the streets calling #genocide for what it is, we're the final girls.
