The song 'Horse with No Name' is 54 years old. My horse does have a name and he's 23 years old. Also, I have been through the desert with him numerous times.

Rio has a rabbit that comes and dines with him every night. He's also been pretty tired that makes me wonder are they partying? Are they snuggling together or is the rabbit kicking his feet when he's dreaming?

Poor Rio is feeling a little neglected since we are gone more than usual. When we came home yesterday we both were worn out so we took care of him and went inside and didn't spend as much time as usual. So, what did he do? He went out to the back pasture and rolled until he was filthy. He knew how to get his mama to spend time with him on his last feeding of the night. God I love that boy!

Rio did very well with the farrier yesterday, but he did have both of us with him to let him know that he was going to be okay. The farrier didn't do the bottom of his hooves like my husband asked. He did say he couldn't skip it every time. We know that but my husband has another doctor's appointment on Tuesday and we wanted him pain free while we are gone for the day.

The farrier is coming today, and my husband is going to tell him not to scrape the bottom of Rio's feet. When he does that Rio is in pain for 2 weeks. The farrier doesn't like it when my husband says not to do something and usually, he does it anyway. We're going to have to insist he listens, we are the boss and he needs to understand that. My husband said he'll take care of Rio's hooves himself, but I told him there is no way he can. He is in so much pain that he couldn't even attempt it. We'll see what the day brings.

When we came home from town yesterday Rio was out grazing. I called to him: Hi, Sunshine, we're home! He tossed his head and started trotting home. When he came up to me my depression and anxiety melted away for a few minutes. Animals are amazing therapy.

Poor Rio has been so tired lately part of it is we are in the stages of a full moon. Goofy boy refuses to sleep when it's bright out then he pays the rest of the day. Yesterday I took him for a walk to move his legs a bit and when we got back to the barn, I brushed him. He layed his head on me and I hugged him and told him to take a nap. Being a horse mom is so different from being a dog mom. But I wouldn't trade it for the world. That boy is the sweetest baby and I love him so much.

I came out of the barn yesterday and saw a lot of smoke about 40 miles away from us. Of course it scared me, fire is a big fear anywhere. I told Rio to keep an eye on it and if it looked like the wind shifted and was bringing it towards us to run like hell. Several times he came out of the barn or left the spots where he was standing to look towards the smoke. He's one of the few males in my life that's ever listened to me.

Yesterday was finally a warmer day so I was able to spend more time with Rio. That made him feel good. Twice when I was brushing his neck, he put his head on my arms to show me some love.

I was standing beside Rio while he was eating petting and talking to him. I decided to walk behind the barn and look around then I looked behind me, and Rio was looking around the barn to see where I went and what I was doing. He is a curious horse, and I also think he was wanting to know why I stopped giving him attention.
