@dangillmor Someone convince #MarkCarney et al to promote this thing internationally, especially in countries not engaged in any trade war against us. Exporting train cars of these through our Pacific and Atlantic ports to Oceania, Asia, Europe, Africa, and South and Central America, with federal assistance to scale for international demand, would harm the #separatist cause.
And spreading #rightToRepair is an unalloyed good anyway. @avilewis, you at least know the guy. Happen to have a means to get in touch? I imaging the #NDP would be supportive of helping other countries get free of the US duopoly with their inbuilt kill-switches.
Meanwhile, can anyone persuade this company to offer an electric variant? If it's just as independently repairable, a lot of countries would want that option instead.
#RightToRepair #Nintendo #UE
Update. "Demand Is Booming for New No Tech, Repairable Tractor."

Brilliant solution to a real problem. Subtract user-hostile tech.
"Alberta’s #UrsaAg says that it has been inundated with demand after announcing its tractor, which costs roughly half as much as a #Deere and has the benefit of not being a repair nightmare. We have for years covered the frustration that farmers have felt as they have been locked out of their Deere tractors with digital rights management [#DRM] systems that prevent them from fixing their machinery, tractors that won’t run because of minor sensor failures, and crops that literally die on the vine as they wait for an “authorized” repair person to fix tractors during critical harvesting periods."
404 Media: Demand Is Booming for New No Tech, Repairable Tractor. “The secondary market for decades old, low-tech John Deere tractors has been booming for years as farmers have sought reliable tractors that they can actually fix without having to deal with John Deere’s repair monopoly. A Canadian company has seen that demand and came up with a radical thought: What if they made a new, […]

Good! And now we need some #car manufacturers to do the same. Strip out the telemetry and make the engine easily repairable.

Nintendo is officially rolling out a revised version of the upcoming Switch 2 featuring user-swappable batteries. The hardware adjustment is a direct, forced response to the European Union's sweeping Batteries Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542), a right-to-repair mandate that legally requires all portable appliances to use easily replaceable power cells by February 18, 2027. To meet
Nintendo confirmed an upcoming "Switch 2" model with a replaceable battery for the European Union to follow the new, upcoming mandatory rules:

I really like that. I still hope phone manufacturers will not find/use any exemption fitting for them to get around it, but it's good to see Nintendo is forced to do something good.
So, yay for "right to repair" and keeping devices alive for longer!
Wow that’s so cool. The Switch 2 will soon have a replaceable battery but only in the EU. You know, because the EU is so bad and stifles innovation and stuff.
I hope more will be forced to do it. It also tells you a lot about Nintendo, if they introduce it only in the EU.
I already love the comments in the article, where people ultimately jump in to protect their favorite corp, instead of appreciating more consumer rights. What went wrong?

We will outwit companies that are anti-consumer.
