#TheOtherOne s2e5 (1979) - 9/10
One of the best episodes.

1️⃣ Very much a script from the late 1970s, it gives #JoannaDunham (#VanDerValk) a strong guest role as an executive wearied by sexist treatment in the workplace. Into this situation come Ralph and Brian.

2️⃣ #RichardBriers excels here. This is Ralph at his most obnoxious. The same goes for #MichaelGambon, who gives us Brian at his most gormless.

Ralph Tanner is basically David Brent from #TheOffice. But 22 years earlier, and played by #RichardBriers instead of #RickyGervais.

3️⃣ #LallyBowers (#YoureOnlyYoungTwice) has a wonderful supporting role in this one, as a landlady who sees through Ralph’s bullshit. In the final minutes, when he is at his lowest, she is nice to him. And he lets his guard down. And we learn quite a lot of his background in a short exchange. It’s a strong payoff to the events of the episode.
