The 90s trash band and one-hit wonder ‘Right Said Fred’ has arrived on Nostr. There’s a lot going on there at the moment when it comes to free music. I think that’s great. The AI hype has the advantage that it’s driving many scammers and money-grabbers out of the Bitcoin and blockchain world. As a result, Bitcoin has gained a decidedly bad reputation, which isn’t entirely surprising.
But Bitcoin, Monero and Ethereum are decentralised databases and federated money. Especially for artists and musicians working in niche genres and subcultures, it’s virtually impossible to operate within the Spotify and Instagram world. You give up your own autonomy and have to enter the mainstream market, where there’s no room for experimentation.

This is a disastrous development. I myself have released my work on Spotify. A huge mistake, but one had to give it a go. I’ve returned, full of regret, after receiving a mere 40 cents a month despite what felt like plenty of plays, whilst the wealthy billionaires on the board invest my money in weapons systems. It’s blatant anti-musician cynicism. It must stop.
Bitcoin and Noster are ways to save our subcultures and musicians’ livelihoods. It’s all still in development, and there’s certainly plenty of scams involved, but I support it! For me, it’s hope that I can carry on.

Nostr Music Unit
Die 90er Jahre Trashband und One-Hit-Wonder "Right Said Fred" ist auf Nostr angekommen. Im Moment gibt es dort sehr viel Bewegung, was freie Musik angeht. Finde ich gut. Der KI-Hype hat den Vorteil, dass viele Scammer und Moneymaker aus der Bitcoin- und Blockchain-Welt fliehen. Bitcoin hat dadurch einen ausgesprochen schlechten Ruf bekommen, was auch nicht ganz unverständlich ist. 

Aber Bitcoin und Monero und auch Ethereum sind dezentrale Datenbanken und föderiertes Geld. Gerade für Künstler und Musiker, die in den Nischen und Subkulturen arbeiten, ist es quasi unmöglich, in der Spotify- und Instagram-Welt zu agieren. Man gibt seine eigene Souveränität auf und muss auf den großen Markt, auf dem es keinen Platz für Experimente gibt. 

Das ist eine fatale Entwicklung. Ich selbst habe meine Sachen auf Spotify veröffentlicht. Ein großer Fehler, aber man musste es versuchen. Ich bin reumütig zurück, nachdem ich trotz für mich vieler Plays gerade mal 40 Cent im Monat bekommen habe und die reichen Milliardäre aus dem Vorstand mein Geld in Waffensysteme investieren. Es ist offener Anti-Musiker-Zynismus. Es muss enden.

Bitcoin und Noster sind Möglichkeiten, unsere Subkulturen zu retten und die Lebensgrundlage der Musiker. Alles in Entwicklung, sicher trotzdem viel Scam dabei, aber ich unterstütze es! Für mich ist es Hoffnung, weitermachen zu können.

“Bop-A-Lena,” one of the classics of 1950s Dada-punk, was one of the first songs we recorded at our studio.
Some of the instruments were homemade.
Some of the musicians on the recording weren’t well-known at the time, but went on to become quite famous.
To preserve what was created there in collaboration with many people and friends, I began establishing the Erich Mühsam Foundation a long time ago.
Erich Mühsam, because of his iconic poem “To conform is to lie.” I think that fits us.
I’ve also managed to find space for the foundation. (I just call it that; it’s not a “real” foundation, but I think the name fits.)
This gives us some breathing room, and we can save Suzy Q Records and Reverend Elvis and the Undead Syncopators and all the visual art.
I’d say they’re up to the task, and we’re now entering negotiations with PYUR.
Long live the underground!

"Bop-A-Lena" einer der Klassiker des DaDa-50s-Punk war einer der ersten Songs, den wir in unserem Haus aufgenommen haben.
Die Instrumente waren teilweise selbst gebastelt.
Einige der Musiker auf der Aufnahme waren damals noch keine, sind dann aber recht bekannt geworden.
Um das, was da in Zusammenarbeit mit vielen Menschen und Freunden entstanden ist, zu erhalten, habe ich schon lange begonnen, die Erich-Mühsam-Stiftung aufzubauen.
Erich Mühsam wegen seines ikonischen „Sich fügen heißt lügen“-Gedichts. Ich denke, das passt zu uns.
Mir ist es auch gelungen, Räume für die Stiftung zu finden. (Ich nenne das nur so, ist keine "echte" Stiftung, aber ich denke, das passt.)
Das hält uns den Rücken frei und wir können Suzy Q Records und Reverend Elvis and the Undead Syncopators und die ganze bildende Kunst retten.
Ich würde mal sagen, die sind standesgemäß und wir gehen nun in die Verhandlungen mit der PYUR.
