If you are left leaning, try to have a conversation with a conservative right winger using logic to back your arguments.

It is better to try and have a conversation rather than argue over differing opinions. You can change someone’s entire ideology using your words.

“Now is the time to use our agency—to be more civically involved, not less; to have the uncomfortable conversations we’ve been avoiding; to stop setting intellectual traps for those who are less informed; to listen for the sake of learning, instead of waiting for our turn to speak; to do meaningful things for one another, no matter how small or local the upside.”

Ideas And that’s not nearly as depressing as it sounds. July 16, 2024 My question at this point in the presidential election, when it’s so devastatingly clear that no current candidate has united our country, is not whether Donald Trump or Joe Biden can win. After an attempt on Trump’s life and amid forceful calls for the president to end his campaign, it feels impossible to believe that either man could bring us together, if any president ever really can. I believe this deserves an open and #RespectfulDebate. Why does the conflict in #Gaza seems to spark more heated debates in public, while the even higher count of victims of atrocities in the deadlier conflict in #Ethiopia is not present in our public debate of west and east?

BTW: It is perfectly acceptable to only mention different aspects related to the debated topic without feeling the need to find a general explanation, which may not always be possible.

Is it possible to have civil political discourse even with strong disagreements? If so, how can we encourage more of it? #RespectfulDebate #HealthyDemocracy
Anthropology groups shut down sex discussion to protect transgender people

American Anthropological Association and Canadian Anthropology Society play the eugenics card to silence academics previously targeted for cancellation but won't say how many members complained about their sex panel.

Just The News
If someone thinks something must change, then rather than just debating with others one at a time it's in their interest to invite others to listen in. If change is essential, maximizing the audience will accelerate winning people around. On the other hand, if someone arguing against you has a large audience, they can expose all the weaknesses in your argument. This benefits everyone. Obviously trolls can use it. But so can the rest of us to neutralize trolls and demagogues. #RespectfulDebate
When two people debate with each other that is good. But when both invite others to weigh up what each says, then both gain even more: the wisdom of crowds isn't something to be intimidated by. If you don't convince most people, then that doesn't mean you must be wrong; maybe you need to learn how to argue your case better next time. And don't rule out the possibility you are wrong. Listen to different points of view. #RespectfulDebate
