Trying to decide if being #lazy is acceptable, or if I should do the job properly.

I have a #pcb with a 100 Ω #SMD #resistor already soldered to it, but need to replace it with something around (but not under) 27 Ω.

I could attempt to desolder the original resistor (but I don't have a heat gun/plate, so would have to do it with a soldering iron) and replace it with the correct value; OR I could solder a 39 Ω resistor on top of it, giving the equivalent resistance of ~28 Ω.

But is the lazy approach actually ok in practice? Should I just do it properly? 😬

Not sure if I've seen one of these before. I think it's probably an Allen & Bradley RCR07 quarter-watt 10MΩ±10% carbon-composition #resistor ... but they're supposed to be 0.25-inch long by 0.9-inch diameter; this is a little longer at about 7mm. Within tolerance? 🤔

After 15 minutes of my time and £3 on eBay, my sister’s heated throw is functional once again.
For such an expensive item (StaySnug), the controller doesn’t seem to be very well designed.
Surely resistors shouldn’t get that hot in normal use?
At least there was a thermal fuse… 🤷‍♂️

Screaming at Walls est une sculpture sonore interactive et multicanale diffusée par radio. Dix canaux de radio FM pirate sont diffusés par quatre réseaux de haut-parleurs fabriqués à la main, chacun étant conçu pour interagir avec le potentiel acoustique de résonance du mur de béton auquel il fait face.

La sculpture - composée de klaxons, de caissons de basse, d'amplificateurs et de radios FM accordables - transmet des couches d'une composition dans l'espace. Le public sera invité à sélectionner l'une des dix boucles sonores pour chacun des quatre haut-parleurs, en les mélangeant et en les associant pour manipuler l'environnement sonore.

Sur le plan thématique, l'œuvre explore les expériences émotionnellement chargées des artistes qui naviguent dans des fossés éthiques et politiques irréconciliables avec les sionistes alors que nous continuons à crier pour la liberté des Palestinien.ne.s de l'occupation, du siège et du génocide aux mains de l'État d'Israël. Enfermée sur trois côtés et faisant directement face à un mur, l'œuvre devient une métaphore de ces conversations souvent exaspérantes qui peuvent nous donner l'impression de parler à des murs - et souvent de leur crier dessus. Cette fois, le sentiment qui se dégage de cette métaphore n'est pas celui de la résignation, mais celui d'une profonde conviction. La Palestine sera libre.

Screaming at Walls is an interactive, multi-channel radio broadcast sound sculpture. Ten channels of FM pirate radio broadcast through four handcrafted speaker arrays, each designed to interact with the resonant acoustic potential of the concrete wall they face.

The sculpture – comprised of horns, subwoofers, amplifiers, and tunable FM radios – transmits layers of a composition into the space. Visitors will be invited to select one of the ten sound loops for each of the four speakers, mixing and matching to manipulate the soundscape.

Thematically, the work explores the artists’ emotionally charged experiences navigating irreconcilable ethical and political rifts with zionists as we continue to cry out for Palestinian freedom from occupation, siege and genocide at the hands of the state of Israel. Enclosed on three sides, and directly facing a wall, the work becomes a metaphor for these often infuriating conversations that can leave us feeling like we’re talking to – and often screaming at – walls. This time, the sentiment around this metaphor is not one of resignation, but one of deep conviction. Palestine will be free.
