I share your dismay that ease of #replacement / #recycling was not "baked in" from the beginning with modern EVs. Another "duh!" moment by corps who do not care about such things.🙄
On a brighter note... search for California using old #EV #batteries for off-peak power storage.

My understanding is what we see as "the battery" in an EV is often a bunch of smaller cells. When the whole battery goes bad, it is often limited to a single cell. The remaining cells can be redeployed into new power storage roles. Throwing away the entire multi-cell battery seldom makes sense.
Car companies would rather you throw the entire thing away and replace for big $$$. Like changing the entire turn signal "module" $$$ instead of just the lightbulb $. You know the drill! 😡
