This is part of a series on Hitlers rise to power and pretty much every episode begs us to assassinate Trump.

Reboots and remakes: why is Hollywood stuck on repeat?

As Jurassic World: Rebirth and 28 Years Later become the latest franchise titles to hit the big screen, movie fans are realising a depressing truth

First pattern I've done in about... *checks notes*
...14 MONTHS! Time flies when you put random stuff through the scanner.

Anyway, this one has some abstract skulls on it. Started with photos of bubbles and then did stuff in Affinity, Bit Vision and Mosh-Pro. Have not decided if this will end up as a demo or could be expanded into a full set.

Base editing of trinucleotide repeats that cause Huntington’s disease and Friedreich’s ataxia reduces somatic repeat expansions in patient cells and in mice - Nature Genetics

Base editing of the pathogenic trinucleotide repeat expansions underlying Huntington’s disease and Friedreich’s ataxia introduces repeat interruptions that reduce somatic expansion in patient cells and mice.

While looking for a reason why quite standard #genome #annotation pipeline failed I discovered a 159 000 AA long ORF in Augustus output. Yes, you read this right that's 477K of #repeats without any stop codons. I just need to understand what I hate more - RepeatModeler, Augustus, or this group of organisms.

PS there are at least 10 more >100K AA. FML.

My new broadcast for tomorrow's @Biesentales radio show "Too fast to grasp" airs from 19h30 to 21h Berlin time on #^https://cashmereradio.com/shows/biesentales/ and will feature longer works by Tyshawn Sorey, Adam Rudolph, Sae Hashimoto, Russel Greenberg, Levy Lorenzo, Yarn/Wire, Emiliano Pennisi, João MS, Héliodrome and myself. The complete arrangement has been contextualized by an overlay of massively slowed/pitched down bat recordings from my back yard in Berlin for locality and its ambience.

I hope you'll enjoy and I'll post the complete tracklisting with links to artist sites afterwards, as always.
Please follow @Biesentales for regular updates.
#boosts, #reshares and #repeats are much appreciated.

The "Boost all the toots!" attitude on Mastodon and the unread posts counter on Friendica, Hubzilla and (streams). Whenever a new post or DM or comment appears on your stream, it's marked as unread until you read it.

One huge difference between Mastodon on the one hand and these three on the other hand is when you receive notifications. Friendica, Hubzilla and (streams) do not notify you by default when a random stranger mentions you, only when someone whom you follow mentions you.

They do not notify you about new posts from your contacts either; that's what the unread posts counter is for. What they do notify you about is when a conversation which you follow receives new comments. You can follow a conversation either manually or by commenting on it or by liking or disliking the start post or a comment.

Regardless, new posts fall under unread. And so do new comments on posts which have already appeared in your stream.

So what happens in practice? Let's assume someone whom you're connected to boosts a Mastodon toot from a very popular account to you, e.g. Eugen Rochko or George Takei. After that toot has been boosted, 240 people reply to that toot.

On Mastodon, you get one notification for that boost. That's all.

On Friendica, Hubzilla and (streams), you don't get any notification. But you get one unread post and 240 unread comments.

So boosts from connections on Mastodon who boost stuff they find interesting (but you don't necessarily) every two minutes clutters your stream. But what completely and utterly clutters it are the replies to the boosted posts.

This also means that if someone replies to a post you've received as a boost several months ago, the whole thread with the boosted post is pushed up to "most recent" in your stream again by the new comment.

No wonder more and more Hubzilla and (streams) users activate channel filters and then filter out boosts/repeats.

At #gazas heights the Light #Horse dashed,

Bold #Cameliers charged in vain;

The #Welsh were slaughtered, #Scots were smashed;

In the #Wadi #blood flowed like #rain

Then Tim heard an officer—who at Mons

Had stemmed the #huns advance—

Exclaim, ’mid the roar of the murdering guns,

“I wish I was back in France.”

The Gaza Trenches

As this poem suggests, the Second Battle of Gaza and the days that followed were some of the darkest of the war for the men of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. In many ways trench lines recreated the underground life that was common in other theaters of the Great...
