Наконец-то дошли руки сделать репаст или, правильнее будет сказать, смену термоинтерфейса на GPU.

Я уже то ли ещё на lor.sh, то ли уже тут жаловался когда-то, что у меня на высоких нагрузках на GPU вроде некоторых моментов в Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 или запуска инференса какого-нибудь FLUX локально просто напрочь вырубался десктоп.

Какое-то время я не мог понять, что происходит, но потом обратил внимание что GPU под высокими нагрузками неадекватно греется.

Под "неадекватно" я имею в виду 110-113 градусов Цельсия в горячей точке.

В общем, сегодня настал тот день когда я разобрал свою относительно старенькую RX 6800 XT, почистил от старой пасты, которая "убежала" и вместо неё поставил интерфейс с фазовым переходом.

На удивление управился во много раз быстрее, чем планировал. Сорок минут сборки, чистки воздухом и спиртом, замера чипа, вырезания термоинтерфейса, его установки и сборки всего этого обратно.

Результат - отличный, лучше, чем я ожидал.

Под нагрузкой в игре цифры такие:

Было:
GPU Core: 91C
GPU Hot Spot: 113C
Power: 280W
Fan: 1990 RPM

Стало:
GPU Core: 67C
GPU Hot Spot: 83C
Power: 285W
Fan: 1715 RPM

То есть, уменьшились и абсолютные температуры, и дельта между "средней температурой по больнице" и "горячей точкой".

Вместе с этим расслабился и вентилятор.

Операция "Грязь" объявляется успешной 🎉

My favorite memory of my M1 Pro MacBook Pro was the whole sensation of “holy crap, you never hear the fans in this thing”, which was very novel in 2021. Four years later, this MacBook Pro is still a delight. It’s the longest I’ve ever owned a laptop, and while I’d love to pick up the new M4 goodness, this dang thing still seems to just shrug at basically anything I throw at it. Video editing, code compiling, CAD models, the works. (My desire to update is helped though by the fact I got the 2TB SSD, 32GB RAM option, and upgrading to those on new MacBooks is still eye wateringly expensive.)

A bit of a methodological error, my all core sustained on the CPU is 3.4ghz using stress. The numbers I reported were with #Ollama working a query. So I am 500mhz faster than spec with #ptm7950 phase change cooling. #laptop #AI #LLM #repaste

There can be quite a bit o juice left in older laptops.

@BestGirlGrace Espechally once you #recap a board with #SolidCaps and enshure your #MOSFET|s are well-cooled and veltilated...

Also remember to use some long-term durable thermal paste like #Arctic #MX4 or #MX6 and #repaste that machine every 5 years...

Espechally with #GameConsoles that'll really make them run cooler and quieter because most use the cheapest thermal grease they can get away with at launch...

If you think a #MacBook is a pain to #FanClean and #repaste then have a go with a HP G61.

I've had to completely strip it down, including screen removal. Almost everything has to be removed from the casing just to get to the fan.
