Rising interest in #Europe doesn’t yet prove a major shift, since data on highly skilled Americans #relocating is limited. But more are exploring careers abroad, citing concerns about US political instability, research funding, and overall quality of life

Movin’ on

The first of June and a new prompt from Rojie.

Would you ever relocate to another city? State? Or country? Why or why not?

Yes. I would absolutely relocate. To another city? Probably not because what’s the point unless it was far enough out of the metro area where home prices were really cheap and life was noticeably different and more relaxed.

To another state? Yes, and top choices would be Oregon, Florida, Alaska. Oregon because I think that part of the country is beautiful. Ocean, mountain, forest, and close enough to a lot of places for nice day or long weekend trips so what’s not to like? Florida because I have some fond memories of living there a long time ago and as much as I don’t like the humidity, the humidity down there is different than the humidity up here. And I like the ocean and I’m guessing I’d like the gulf coast which is where my houseboat would be. Alaska, I don’t really know why other than I like the idea of long nights and the feeling of being part of the wilderness. But that’s really a romantic thought because as much as I wouldn’t mind living in the real untamed wilderness of Alaska, I know I wouldn’t last a day out there, if that. I’d probably die from an accident or being eaten before I had the chance to starve to death, So I’d be living in an urban area which might not be so different than here.

To another country? Yes, and top choices would be Canada, Israel, someplace in Europe like Spain or Portugal. Canada for the same reasons as Oregon, and then the east coast, somewhere in Quebec because of all the water and the close proximity to Boston, NY and DC for trips. Israel because why not, but I’m not a big fan of the nation’s politics which would make living there for me at this point difficult. Spain or Portugal because they seem right in the middle, or close enough to it, of a lot of stuff and would allow me to spend a lot of time touring all of Europe and exploring history. And I read somewhere that the cost of living there is lower. Speaking of cost of living, I might add Mexico to the list as well, but I don’t know where I’d want to settle down there.

But will I ever move? Probably not. Why would I move? Not for a job, that’s for certain. Out of boredom? No that probably wouldn’t be wise, just as moving with the belief that there’s something better somewhere else wouldn’t be wise. So why? Maybe for love, yeah, but time’s running out on that. For a home? Yeah, for that. I’d move for that.

Buyers Advice – Location Location Location

It’s the three words that home buyers constantly hear: “location, location, location”. That’s because location is a key reason why home buyers will purchase one dwelling over another, regardless of what the home offers. Why? Fixtures and fittings are changeable but location isn’t. Nearby amenities, particularly rapidly evolving ones, will also add to the property value. But exactly what makes a great location? One word: convenience. With busyness now the average way of life, time is more treasured than ever. So, search for a property within a 10-minute drive of a grocery store and other basic retail points such as a gas station, schools and medical facilities. Home buyers in urban areas may also be keen to live close to a larger shopping mall. Other things to consider: School proximity
  • Locations close to top-notch educational facilities are a driving force for home buyers, including those currently without children but planning to have them in the future. Even those planning never to have children should check this point as school proximity can add to home values.
Transport convenience
  • Whether by road or public transport, this is another major location key, especially when it comes to an easy commute to employment, schools and everyday facilities. Also check on current and upcoming transport developments in the area.
Entertainment
  • While not as crucial, entertainment and recreational facilities should not be forgotten when it comes to ideal locations. Think public parks, walking trails, sporting facilities, pools, bars, restaurants, cafés, museums, art galleries and everything in-between. Parents will particularly prefer an easy commute to local sports fields.
Do your research! The best way to check a property location is to drive or walk around the area at different times of the day and week. Inspect all facilities close to the home and talk to people including  local residents and store owners.

Buyer Advice – Why You Need A Real Estate Agent

I know that you have a lot of decisions coming up now that you’re in the hunt for a new house. This post is just aimed to arm you with some super helpful information to help you make the right decision, no matter what direction you want to go. An agent’s prime function is to help guide you through all of your decisions and processes. We help with not just finding the right home for you but also: – Setting appropriate budgets – Finding hidden details on homes (both good and bad) – Helping out with locating hidden costs (taxes, utilities, etc.) – Negotiations – Closing – Paperwork – Help you find the best mortgage lenders, movers, home inspectors and more And, of course, all the emotional support needed when making such a big purchase. If you want to go solo that’s great, and I wish you the best! But, if you think you do want to hire an agent, make sure to interview them first. Be sure to ask questions about their career like “How long have you been an agent?” “How many homes have you sold in the last year?” and “What kind of homes do you specialize in?” That’s it! I really do hope this information serves you well in finding the right agent, and if you’d like to talk further about it then feel free to let me know. I am happy to help you get started and answer any questions you may have about myself!
