@meganL @DurableAce @wesley #BikeNite A5 and if you're going to carry two motors to use one as a generator, #regenBraking -capable hub plus a crank drive with chain and cassette gives you everything the serial system would except for decoupling the pedals in reverse. IMO, a fair trade for the efficiency, resilience, and ability to climb steep hills.
Maybe we could take advantage of a honkin' lot of capacitors on the #eBikes as a way to plug them into AC mains 120-280V and better #regenBraking, just smooth out those voltage sine waves like they were braking pulses? The motor is a three-phase AC, with the controller plugged into it and the battery. Also you don't have to carry J1772 to plug into regular outlets, C8 or whatever end plugs into the AC charge port and you can switch leads. Is it just a rectifier + regulator between the cap-🔋?
@ascentale @bikemonterey #BikeNite A2 I have experimented with a solar panel on the roof of the bakfiets, though not in-motion since I would like to build it onto a frame which keeps it from flexing. The 100W panel produces maybe 60W in ideal conditions, and probably doesn't sustain the battery use for long journeys, but it would extend the range of a day around town when it is parked for several hours at a time. But, #regenBraking adds ~20% to the range in hilly areas
What's it like going down S Corbett with about 500W #regenBraking? (I'm trying to save brake pads+rims but not sure if my battery can handle more than this. Sometimes the baserunner cuts out here if I have a stoker on the way down.) #GrinMAC #eBikes #BikeTooter
Mt St Helens was out too, just to the right halfway down the last stretch, but it doesn't come through on video.
I'm using the brake + throttle control for #RegenBraking, on the #GrinMAC motor + baserunner + CycleAnalyst setup. Trying to save the rim brake pads but the throttle gets taken as a Go signal if it's still down when the brake switch is let off, so you have to keep the brake squeezed exactly that much or drag the pads on the rim. I'm thinking a parallel button to the brake switch, that I could just hold down for electric braking with the throttle. There's also the two-way throttle available 🤔
Shifting with regen braking, but connecting the chain to the second freewheel lashed the axle to death. Maybe it should be a v-belt on the braking side and just slip a little #eBikes #regenBraking #BikeTooter #SolarBike
