A plume of pollutants in the upper atmosphere above Germany is identified using lidar observations of lithium concentrations and can be traced back to the uncontrolled re-entry of a specific rocket launch through atmospheric modelling
It still seems unreal to me that humans will soon be flying back to the moon! They will be returning to Earth at a speed of 40.000 km/h, the fastest ever reentry of a crewed spacecraft.
To get an idea what such a reentry looks like, I made this remastered version of the Artemis 1 reentry from 2022 with trajectory data overlayed.

How we protected the UK and space in Dec. 2025
.. issued in Jan. 2026 and covers the time period 1 Dec.2025 to 31 Dec. 2025 inclusive.
"
"Dec. saw sustained levels of space activity with uncontrolled re-entries and collision alerts higher than in Nov., but with lower space weather activity impacting infrastructure."

Want to observe satellites reentering but the location doesn't suit you? No problem, we'll change the orbits.
Where exactly did you say you want them to fall?
No joke, that's exactly what #ESA will do with the remaining Cluster satellites, in an effort for a responsible approach to reducing the ever-increasing problem of space debris :

When satellites eventually fall back down to Earth, they mostly burn up because of the friction caused by the atmosphere. Scientific data about this atmospheric reentry process is urgently needed to design future satellites for a quick, safe and sustainable demise at the end of their mission – reducing risks on the ground and in space. The European Space Agency (ESA) successfully manoeuvred its remaining two Cluster satellites to ensure they can both be observed from a plane as they reenter the atmosphere on 31 August and 1 September 2026.
Missed us, doing another orbit by the looks of it.
Back in ~86 minutes but further south.

If the entry #angle is too steep, deceleration forces (braking effect due to #atmospheric friction) will become too large and the spacecraft can break up 💥. The steeper the entry angle, the higher the #heat 🌡️ flux, the measure for the amount of thermal energy absorbed by the heat shield every second. If the heat flux is higher than what the heat shield material can take, the heat shield will fail – most likely it will burn 🔥 through https://blogs.esa.int/rocketscience/2015/02/05/the-facts-on-reentry-accurate-navigation-is-everything
