That said, I for some time now, I have been offered the chance to fight for king & country in the War to End all Wars. And I won't lie reenacting that time period has been a curiosity for a while too.
At least it would mean machine sewing some kit.
Reenacting drama.
Racism & sexism is causing issues at large for my reenacting company to the point it might implode. And if it does because people can't take a principled stand to support women or minorities, I am okay with it.
It would mean I might no longer be an 18th century reenactor anymore, which considering I haven't been on the field for 5+ years, isn't as hard to stomach.
While recovering, I've done two evenings of sewing. Feeling pretty good for the progress.
I might not be a great reenactor these days (last event was 2019). However period sewing is more my vibe these days.
This is why I want to learn proper tailoring. To make better kit or historical clothing. It's a good goal, and I think achievable.

Spent the evening doing some reenacting sewing. Started on a simple haversack. I'd cut the pieces around this time last year I think? I haven't done any historical sewing in over 2 years, and this felt right.
Time well spent.
It is amazing that something rather stupid grew over 5 years from a molehill into a massive anxiety mountain.
But I finally scaled the mountain. Perhaps 5 years later than I wanted, but it is a first step.
