Israel’s Supreme Court has unanimously rejected a government policy banning representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from visiting Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.

The court ruled on Wednesday that by preventing the Red Cross from visiting prisoners, the government had contravened Israeli and international law, and therefore the policy must be repealed."

Te Ranga School pupils at the Queen Carnival in Te Puke, 1918, 1918-05-30

This photograph of students from Te Ranga School dressed up as Red Cross workers was found at the Te Puke Archive Room with no other information.

Fortunately a reference to a Queen Carnival in 1918 which was held to raise funds for the Red Cross was found in PapersPast. The article from the Te Puke Times mentioned this group from Te Ranga School being part of the procession.

Vezzano, fatal work accident: the victim is Asmir Slomic, 51 years old.

Born in Bosnia, but resident in Silandro: he was crushed by a small truck overturned after a collision within the company with another earthmoving vehicle. Firefighters, Croce Bianca (Red Cross), and Carabinieri (police) were on the scene.
