50-year-old temperature record broken in #BangorME during spring #HeatWave

by Leela Stockley, March 10, 2026

"A spring heat wave that has brought temperatures in the 50s and 60s across much of the state for the past few days smashed a daily temperature record in Bangor on Tuesday.

"According to the Caribou office of the National Weather Service, a high temperature of 70 degrees was recorded in Bangor Tuesday afternoon, topping a daily record of 62 degrees set nearly 50 years ago. That daily high temperature record was set in 1977.

"That marks the third day in a row that the Queen City has experienced record high temperatures: A daily record high of 59 degrees was observed Monday, tying a record high set in 2016, and a daily record high of 60 degrees was observed Sunday, beating out a high of 59 degrees set in 2012.

"It is also the earliest that Bangor has ever recorded a 70-degree day in the history of record keeping, which dates back to 1925. The previous earliest recorded temperature at or above 70 degrees was on March 18, 2012, when Bangor reached 76 degrees."

"The high temperatures and sunshine won’t be sticking around, as northern Maine faces a winter storm warning rolling in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Daytime temperatures across the state are expected to be significantly cooler than Tuesday’s conditions, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s."

Augusta's high temperature Wednesday tied the warmest temperature ever recorded at the site in the month of November

by Ethan Horton, November 6, 2024

AUGUSTA — "Central Maine set yet another heat-related record Wednesday, marking the third time in the past week a daily temperature record has been broken.

"Wednesday’s unofficial high temperature reached 76 F (24.4 C) in #AugustaMaine and 73 degrees (22.7 C) in #WatervilleMaine, breaking the local record of 72 degrees (22.2 C), set in 2022. #LongIsland breaks a temperature record for the date at 81 degrees; #NewYorkState issues wildfire alert

October 22, 2024

"Long Island set a new temperature record Tuesday for the date, topping off at 81 degrees at #Islip, in the second day of record-setting warmth in the region.

"The unseasonable heat breaks the 1979 record of 77 degrees for Oct. 22 and comes on top of Monday's high of 77, breaking the mark of 76 degrees recorded for that date in 2017.

"The warmth has only added to the region's unusually dry conditions, prompting New York State to issue an alert for a high risk of wildfires starting and spreading rapidly.

"This continues a roller-coaster trend for Nassau and Suffolk, which two months ago saw record rains that caused flash flooding in some areas, followed by record-low precipitation since then. October has had not only a record-high temperature but two overnight lows in the 30s.

"So far, October is shaping up to be the driest one on record at Islip, with just 0.10 inches of precipitation recorded so far. The record low precipitation for the month is 0.18 inches in 2000."
