My year with Mastodon (#MastodonWrapped)
I celebrated my first #Mastoversary a few days ago. It’s been a good first year on Mastodon for me; I like the #Fediverse idea, I like people here, and I like the calm vibe this place offers.

Also, I ditched all of my other #SocialMedia accounts. All but one.¹

As I say, Mastodon is a good #platform to be, however there are a couple of things I’ve been struggling with the whole time. I’m going to put together a brief summary below in hope that someone can help me with them.

¹ I still keep Instagram to exchange cute pics of sloths and pandas, and ice-hockey reels with my sons. 😁

To reblog or not to reblog, that is the question…

I sometimes see posts from other authors and I think to myself “I’d really like to share this with my readers” and I am sorely tempted to reblog it on my own blog, fully credited of course, I have no compulsion to plagiarise anyone else’s work, I might be inspired while reading someone else’s work and then write my own post based on said inspiration but that’s a totally different thing.

No what I’m talking about is reblogging a full complete post that someone else wrote and published on their own blog onto my own blog, if I did this I would be sure to try and include full credit to the original author of course, and of course WordPress has the tools available to be able to reblog other folks work.

Plagiarism is of course an ugly word, and rightly so, but as I see it as long as credit is given then this would not be plagiarism, still some folk might not like it while others might see it as a little free advert for their own work via the network of followers getting to read it due to the rebloggers efforts.

Of course reblogging to the extent that it would come at the cost of writing one’s own posts would be a crime against creativity and very wrong, but surely the occasional reblog while still posting many times more of one’s own posts is OK, isn’t it ?

And so that question, to reblog or not to reblog…

Anyway what this all boils down to is that I find myself wondering what other writers thoughts on relogging are, do you like it or hate it, do you do it yourself and if so what are your experiences with the other writers who you have reblogged, do you ask for permission first or is that not really required ?
