I was always aware of Ralph McTell, hard not to be, but only started seriously listening and collecting after seeing his great friendship with Bert Jansch. Bert’s judgement can’t be questioned, so I dived in. Not everything hits home, but what does is very good indeed. #RalphMcTell #folk #vinyl #xp

From the same stable as Jansch and Renbourn, Ralph McTell was huge in the UK folk scene. This album, Right Side Up, is reasonably early on in his discography, and is notable for covering John Martyn’s ‘May You Never’. Martyn also plays guitar on ‘River Rising’. Can’t quite remember where this came from but I think, again, it was Truck Records.

Still most brutal song in terms of unrequited nostalgic longing.
