🇫🇷 Grand tour de l'Ouest - Jour 3 - Partie 1

1er mars 2016.

(Photo 4).

Ce soir, je publierai quelques photos nocturne.

A suivre...

🇬🇧 March 1, 2016. Arriving the evening before in Caen, capital city of Department of Calvados. The next day we started with a visit of the city under a standing rain... Most of the time, I always take advice in Michelin's "Green Guide". The castle and the view on the city (photo 1) are worth the detour and the city has quite a few churches. Though, my general feeling is mixed. After lunch, we're heading the "Mont Saint-Michel" which will be the destination for this third day. On the way we stopped in Saint-Lô in the neighboring department of La Manche and there too, it's raining... It will be a short visit limited to the remparts and a church. My feelings were also mixed but maybe it would be worth to visit the city again under the sun... (Photo 2).

Using a map has an advantage on GPS, we can see things the GPS would not show. So, I saw there was a village called Orval, just like the place in my region where the well known abbey is located. I was curious if there was some partnership between the two places but once again, a little deception was the result... The village is very small but has a pretty old church... And it's still raining and there's no one in the streets... And there is no place to drink a coffee... (photo 3).

Well, let's go then to the Mont-Saint-Michel then, everything was fine until we arrived at a gate... We need a code but I don't have one, and there was no mention of it when I reserved the hotel... Talking about the hotel, I was almost shocked when I saw the day's price for a night, it was 3 times more than the price I paid when I reserved! Well a good bargain as Mercure hotels are quite comfortable.

So, we moved to the other access to the village and there we faced the same gate but not possibility to join someone! We decided to try at the great parking lot where, finally, we could talked over the interphone to someone who told us we had to call the hotel to get a code, each code can be used once and costs 4 EUR! Well, we called the hotel and finally could pass the gate with the expensive code!

The days are still short but we wanted to get to the Mont before dinner. There is ma very first photo of the Mont-Saint-Michel (Photo 4).

Tonight, I'll show a few photos of the Mont-Saint-Michel by night.

To be continued...

1956 Urban Scene Under an Umbrella

In this painting, we see a vivid and impressionistic portrayal of life in the city during what appears to be rainy weather. The central figure is a woman dressed in traditional attire, with her red dress contrasting against the muted colors of the background. She holds an umbrella aloft, suggesting she's shielding herself from rain.

Around her are other figures: one man holding another umbrella over two people under it and possibly a child at his side; others seem to be going about their business as if oblivious to the downpour. The brushstrokes are loose yet expressive, conveying movement and mood rather than precise details.

The background is an abstract mix of colors representing buildings and foliage with no distinct shapes or forms that clearly define them, giving it a somewhat dreamlike quality despite the recognizable urban setting. This could represent either the hurried chaos of city life or perhaps even symbolize emotional turmoil within its inhabitants under such rainy conditions.

The painting showcases traditional attire which hints at cultural significance, possibly from Asia given the style and colors used.
