Planting 30,000 Trees Surpasses Goal for Regenerating a Rainforest on the Isle of Man
Planting 30,000 Trees Surpasses Goal for Regenerating a Rainforest on the Isle of Man

Tropical rainforests are home to almost two-thirds of all vertebrate species and three-quarters of all tree species: they are the most species-rich terrestrial ecosystem on Earth. However, these diverse rainforests are currently being drastically decimated. Can tropical rainforests regenerate, and will the unique diversity of thousands of animal species return after they have been cleared? This question was investigated by the Reassembly research group, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), with the involvement of researchers from the University of Bayreuth. The findings have now been published in the journal Nature.
As a vegan, I of course abhor the idea of dairy chocolate.
I post this only because the article describes how the candy industry cowardly refused to acknowledge climate change and clean up their supply chain. Instead, they chose to replace cocoa with palm oil kernel.
In other words, they now finance rainforest destruction to make their already extremely unhealthy products even less healthy.

Earlier this week, The Hershey Company announced that it is returning all of its classic brands to earlier milk and dark chocolate recipes. The move comes amid a growing backlash over the recipe changes and the use of chocolate alternatives in some of its candies. Deema Zein explores what’s behind this latest battle in the chocolate wars.
Why cutting down rainforests may be driving 28,000 heat deaths a year https://phys.org/news/2026-03-rainforests-deaths-year.html

Tropical forests are hot, steamy places. But when large numbers of trees are cut down, they get even hotter. Our recent research in Nature Climate Change shows that clearing large areas of the rainforest exposes hundreds of millions of people to higher temperatures, increasing heat stress (when the body's way of controlling temperature fails) and, in some cases, contributing to death.
You’ve likely never heard of the curious Red #Colobus, #WestAfrica’s rarest #primate 🐒🐵🙉 Researchers now know that protecting them and the #rainforest will protect all other rare #species. Fight for their survival! #Boycott4Wildlife @palmoildetectives
