What colour is fashionable skin? It's Nude.

Until very recently, the fashion industry's stance was that only a peach-pink (White) skin tone could be called nude. For example, in 2010, the British editor of Elle said nude is "a defined colour. It’s white nude, not black nude". Nude is also the name of Pantone colour 12-0911.

But in 2013, major fashion house Christian Louboutin was first to launch a shoe range in 5 skin tones, from dark to light. Skin-toned shoes, particularly if high-heeled, make the wearer's leg look longer since the leg and foot blend into the shoe. Louboutin's popular Nudes Collection later expanded to 7 tones with various heels. The shoe range continues to pose questions about racialism and to challenge the fashion industry to redefine "nude" so it includes people of all ethnicities.

It appears to be an hereditarian attempt to find "scientific" evidence for racist beliefs about race and intelligence. The paper was published in 2006 in the Cambridge University Press' Journal of Biosocial Science. The Journal of Biosocial Science had been renamed from The Eugenics Review in 1969 at the time that Cambridge University Press began publishing the journal.

Edward Osborne (E. O.) Wilson was an American biologist, zoologist, naturalist, ecologist, and entomologist, known for developing the field of #sociobiology, the primary forerunner of evolutionary psychology. Wilson also pioneered the field of island biogeography.

Wilson was well-known and almost universally loved and admired. In the introduction to the PBS documentary about Wilson, he was described as "one of America’s greatest living thinkers". The Sarasota Herald-Tribune called him "A Hero of the Planet." Leonardo DiCaprio tweeted that he was "the Darwin of the 20th Century." But more controversially, Wilson supported some racialist ideas that live on in the modern-day so-called human biodiversity movement, and some have long claimed Wilson's sociobiology amounts to #hereditarianism and biological determinism.

#Racialism (often "scientific racism" or "race realism" by its adherants) is the idea that humanity can be easily divided into well-defined biological categories ("races") that are both broad and clearly-defined. Racialism implies that these races are substantially physiologically different from each other and that these racial differences strongly determine the abilities and behavior of individuals and peoples.

This #pseudoscience is technically not the same as #racism, which is the belief that one or more of these various groups is "superior" or "inferior" to one or more others, usually in some vague, undefined way. But while racism and racialism are distinct concepts, their respective adherents do overlap a lot more than either would have you believe.

Racialism first developed in the 1700s. It remained virtually unchallenged until the 1930s-1960s, when genetics showed it to be erroneous.
