@syx oh, and the reason @bitsofbas suggested to get a Japanese model if you are in the USA is mostly because those models will have a voltage closer to your native one, as European models tend to be designed for 220V or 240V.
#MSX2Plus and #turboR bring a newer VDP, which may be nice, but the amount of games that support it, is limited.
#MSXTurboR adds support for the #R800 CPU in addition to the previous generations' #Z80, which certainly can give a nice speed boost, especially in day-to-day software like file managers when browsing solid state media with large directories, but it comes with a huge price markup, and only a limited catalogue of games.

For comparison, here's the amounts of software indexed in #GenerationMSX per generation of #MSX:

  • MSX (4193)
  • #MSX2 (2972)
  • MSX2+ (145)
  • Turbo-R (179)

You can use https://www.generation-msx.nl/software/result?sy%5B%5D=Turbo-R&sy%5B%5D=MSX2%2B to list all MSX2+ and turboR software indexed in #GenMSX to get an idea of what kind of games support those generations, or use the checkboxes in the sidebar to filter in/out other generations or specs.

R800 CPU enhanced version of #MSX Chase H.Q. The still sucks since it is a terrible #ZXSpectrum port, but it runs a breakneck speed now! 🔻Download link in the video: https://youtu.be/lCY7AADfzjE #videogames #racing #vintage #retrogaming #retrocomputing
