Last summer, I was lucky enough to spend a few days touring #wineries across some of #Georgia's key wine regions, Kaheti and Kartli, as well as the capital Tbilisi.

I've written quite a few stories following the trip (Decanter and Glug), but this is the one I really couldn't wait to see published. Partly because it's my first proper #photoessay.

Here, I investigate the spiritual value of Georgia’s #qvevri and explore their power to generate new life.

Wines this weekend. Two of my favorite pet nats in Italy. 2021 Nina by Terracanta is a trebbiano fermented and aged in qvevri as is the Bolle di Grotta by La Torretta (the most beautiful winery I gave ever visited)

Of course as I love Lazio and Georgia equally so these are close to my heart.

Trebbiano has such a bad reputation as boring ornjust for blending but grown in the right hands, it's a wonderful expression of local terroir. Nina is closer to the sea while Bolle is made on one of the best volcanic terroirs of Italy. Both made from biodynamic grapes.

Well, isn’t this a whole new thing! (Kinda…) From Kortavebis Marani comes this co-fermented blend of #saperavi #kisi & #khikhvi #wine. Piercing red fruit on the nose falls away to a lightly crunchy & tannic palate with pronounced complexity and mineral tones to the finish. Made in #Kakheti #Georgia in traditional #qvevri. Love it!
Researching Georgian #wine for an article and thought a break for the #food of #Georgia was overdue, so it was off to Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. #Khachapuri Georgian cheese-filled bread, and an amber #Mtsvane, a Georgian skin contact white, or #orangewine aged in #qvevri. A grape, winemaking style and vessel, all dating back thousands of years. What's new is once again old, naturally.
