Can the #Martu help to save the #quoll

“There are elders in the Martu community who speak English as a second or even a third language. Having the summary in Martu allowed them to fully grasp what was trying to be achieved..., if there is the opportunity to include Indigenous languages into a study like this,.. it should always be taken

Indigenous knowledge helps guide conservation of Australia’s endangered northern quoll

Despite its widespread biodiversity, Australia holds an unenviable record when it comes to wildlife: the highest mammalian extinction rate in the world. Since the arrival of Europeans and colonial expansion, at least 40 terrestrial mammal species have been lost, and others are facing serious threats. Notable among these is the northern quoll (Dasyurus hallucatus), a […]

Conservation news
The weather where I live has been brutal (again) these last few weeks and the heat has made my usual drawing tablet basically unusable during that time. However, while I was searching for something else, I found my old wacom companion tablet from uni. I'd stopped using it mostly because these days it had a 10 minute battery, just turning it on made it sound like a jet engine and it sputtered just trying to open it's start menu let alone run any art programs, but I never realised that if you plugged it into a windows PC it would work just like a small cintiq, which bypasses all the performance issues it was having.
So I did this sketch of Ruby from my wheelchair basketball comic to test it out properly! The Winter Olympics and Paralympics had me itching to draw her again.

Survey shows successful reintroduction of eastern quolls to mainland Australia

Once dubbed the Australian "native cat", the eastern quoll was abundant before it was completely wiped out on mainland Australia.

Another #quoll outside overnight, pretty neat to see them!

Not sure how well my peertube instance will cope, but we'll see I guess.

Western quoll joey born in the wild after conservation program success

Once thought to be extinct in NSW, the small, spotted, and highly photogenic western quoll is making a hard-fought comeback to the wild.

The spotted-tail quoll (Dasyurus maculatus) is a carnivorous marsupial that can be found on the eastern Australian mainland, as well as on the island of Tasmania. It hunts a variety of critters, including small mammals, reptiles, and birds, and takes down prey with a powerful bite. Its hisses and screams have been likened to the sounds of a circular saw!
