Layout and style of scientific posters are always up to debate. I personally dislike it when there are filler images or distracting colours and shapes that have nothing to do with the content, so I try to keep it as tidy as possible. My experience is that my audience (mathematical #physics) values if there are concrete example calculations and theorems, so I made a poster full of formulas 😄. Of course, that is different in other fields. The experimental physicists on the conference last week had lots of pictures of their experimental set-up and data plots.
