Meidän pienin pöllömme: varpuspöllö – Our smallest owl: the pygmy owl
Kun katsot kättäsi, sen pituinen varpuspöllö on, nokan kärjestä pyrstön kärkeen, 15-19 cm. Sen ravintoa ovat pikkujyrsijät (metsähiiren ruumiin pituus on 9-13 cm!) ja linnut. Juuri lintujen varoitushuudoista olen pöllöjä useimmiten hoksannut, muutoin niitä on kyllä hyvin vaikea havaita oksalla.

When you look at your hand, it's the length of the pygmy owl, from the tip of its beak to the tip of its tail, 15-19 cm. The diet of the bird includes mostly small rodents (body length of a yellow-necked wood mouse is 9-13 cm!) and birds. It is from the warning cries of birds that I have most often noticed owls, otherwise they are very difficult to spot on a branch.
