blackburn's quasi-realism is a bit different from other noncognitive approaches in that it states we are entitled to act as if our moral statements are truth-apt even though, strictly speaking, they do not.

Where's the Truth in Moral Cognitivism? Cognitivism is the rejection of non-cognitivism. Where the non-cognitivist things moral statements are not propositional, a cognitivist thinks they are, but what does that mean? In short, it means they are statements that can be either true or false. Now, truth itself is a complicated topic and no theory seems to fully describe truth, and even though it's not without its flaws, for simplicity I think we should use the correspondence theory of truth. That which is in accordance with, or corresponds to, reality. It is true that the earth is an oblate spheroid. It is true that abuse causes short term damage and the worse the abuse the higher the chance of long term damage. A moral cognitivist is also likely to conclude that it is true that the abuser is immoral, that this isn't just an expression of disgust or an instruction not to abuse but there is some mor fact that makes it immoral. But where does that truth come from? Keep watching to find out. #morality #moralityshorts #ethics #ethicsandmorality #morals #purpose #purposeofmorality #metaethics #moralcognativism #moralnoncognstivism #ethicaltheory #truth
