@eve VoLTE is working on #Librem5 with #PureOS and #postmarketOS, so I'd expect newer devices to work as well.
Btw, a new global modem upgrade option for the L5 is also apparently coming this year.
The Crimson beta version of #PureOS has been released. PureOS is the #Linux operating system that runs on the @purism devices, like the #Librem5 Linux #phone.
Thanks to all who contributed to this, whether as developer, issue reporter, subscriber or otherwise.
"For that purpose, we created PureOS Upgrade. This application walks you through the upgrade process, and in a few clicks or taps, you will have #Crimson!"

@archivescribe @DaveMasonDotMe There's the #FLX1s from @furilabs
Also, upcoming projects from @mechasystems, @dawndrums and @Liberux
Of course, there's the #LibertyPhone / #Librem5 from @purism for true #gnuLinux... which I heard is receiving a new modem upgrade this year. That's what I'm currently daily driving with #postmarketOS.

@verdre AFAIK distros like #Fedora currently tend to default to something like 50% of ram for the default zram size, while e.g. #postmarketos recently switched to 150%, see https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/merge_requests/7754, #pureos to 200% (https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/librem5-base/-/merge_requests/381) and Android and ChromeOS both overcommit as well.
I saw this helping a lot when compiling stuff (like libcamera) on my Pixel3a, which previously aborted because of OOM - that vanished completely.
So this might be a low hanging fruit for various distros.
@joe9nf Yeah, but for nontechy folk who need a good OotB experience right now, even that's a great step up the #freedomladder, especially as the #phosh UI on it looks almost the same as on mainline projects using it. So when/if they decide to step up the ladder to a mainline project like #postmarketOS, #PureOS or #Mobian, the migration will be easier compared to migrating from iOS/Android because of same UI/DE, flatpaks, waydroid, etc.
Personally, I'm using postmarketOS on a #Librem5 and almost everything important works, but I'm not sure I'd recommend to someone who is not already comfortable with #desktopLinux and a #FOSS-only ecosystem.
Eine weitere Alternativ, die wächst und gedeiht, ist Linux on Mobile (#mobian, #postmarketOS, #PureOS).
Außerdem gibt es noch #SailfishOS.
@as400 @khalid @postmarketOS I'm daily driving a #Librem5 with #postmarketOS and I've tested reliable voice calling successfully with multiple carriers in two counties. Also, tested with #PureOS.
Owners of older units may need to upgrade modem firmware and enable VoLTE manually. The real problem in my limited knowledge is carriers are blocking devices which are not on their 'approved list' or which they think are not VoLTE capable.
Another, bigger questions is: why are people still using unencrypted legacy voice calls for personal communications in 2026?
