Had a fun and exhausting time yesterday teaching thousands of children about human evolution at my local library's "Science Alive" event. I've been doing this every year for 13 years now and estimate I've reached 50,000-75,000 people face to face. #pubsci #publicscience #scicomm #sciencecommunication

🎲 When AI miscounts dice – and science hits the streets
At the Hof autumn market, Prof. René Peinl from Hof University’s iisys showed that research can happen anywhere – even between bratwurst stands and beer fountains.

With just a flipchart and humor, he explained AI’s quirks: great with text, not so great with cubes. 😄

Viral paper on black plastic kitchen utensils earns second correction, basically invalidating panic.

The reference dose for toxicity was off by a literal order of magnitude: 42K ng/per day when the actual number is 420K ng/day. And the exposure/intake calculation also off by an order of magnitude: originally calculated at 34.7K ng/day, but revised to 7900 ng/day.

So from a nearly complete toxic exposure to a 2% of toxicity exposure.
