Init and Systemd: The process orchestra

I - Intro Continuing from the previous post about GNU/Linux system startup, this time I’ll tell you about services. How many times did I struggle with the “print spooler” service in Windows! If you worked in IT starting in Help Desk, Service Desk, or similar positions in corporate environments… you’ve suffered through it too -_- As for Linux… well, the concept is similar but of course it has its differences.

I - Intro Continuando con el hilo de la publicación anterior sobre el inicio de un sistema GNU/Linux, en esta oportunidad te cuento sobre los servicios. ¡Cuántas veces habré luchado con el servicio de “la cola de impresión” en Windows! Si trabajaste en IT comenzando en puestos de Help Desk, Service Desk o similares en entornos corporativos…lo habrás padecido también -_- En cuanto a Linux…bueno, el concepto es similar pero por supuesto tiene sus diferencias.

The boot mystery: GRUB, Bootloader and Kernel

I - Intro The first time I successfully installed Linux, I remember thinking “What’s that GRUB thing that always shows up?” Though… the most common thing was reading error messages because I kept breaking system stuff =) I learned a lot trying the famous “dual boot.” Of course, my first attempt failed because… yes, you guessed it: I installed Linux first, then Windows. It’s technically possible to configure Windows bootloader to read Linux partitions, though it’s extremely complex and error-prone.

Wow...sí que pasó tiempo desde que anuncié el blog! Mudanza de país de por medio. Ahora sí tengo el tiempo, estoy más organizado y tengo la energía necesaria para seguir trabajando en este proyecto =)

El misterio del arranque: GRUB, Bootloader y Kernel

I - Intro La primera vez que instalé con éxito Linux, recuerdo pensar “¿Qué es ese GRUB que sale siempre?” Aunque…lo más común era leer mensajes de error porque rompía cosas del sistema =) Aprendí mucho probando el famoso “dual boot”. Por supuesto que el primer intento fue fallido porque…sí, adivinaron: instalé primero Linux y luego Windows. Técnicamente es posible configurar el bootloader de Windows para que sea compatible y lea la partición de Linux, pero extremadamente complejo y propenso a errores.
