Currently in the process of ditching #ProtonCalendar because, while privacy and security are worthwhile, it is rather pointless if my device fails to connect or get updates from the calendar, which is something which has been happening regularly for the past week. I can't get it working on my Old Tablet at all.
So I'm switching over to Fossify Calendar (and, at this point, going back to Google as the back-end). At least there is the option to switch to a different calendar later.
Downsides: absolutely NO instructions given on how to actually sync with Google calendar (or any other calendars for that matter). Had to scour the internet for information on it, download an additional app, and do all sorts of tweaking with settings in different places.

I'm using Proton Apps on an Google-free GraphenOS device and will be very happy, if you implement that for #protonmail & #protoncalendar. :D
Firebase can be used as an fallback if no UnifiedPush distributor is installed/available.
