Elena Juatco has posted to social media about her experience getting a full head mould for her role on Star Trek Discovery.
45 minutes with just two nose holes. I am in awe of all the prosthetic makeup-wearing actors in the new series.
In her words…
“ elenajuatco
To make my custom face prosthetic on @startrek, they needed to take a mold of my face. It was a 45 minute process where they covered me from my head to my shoulders in several layers of warm, heavy goop, leaving me only two holes for my nostrils so I could breathe. I didn’t expect the process to be this intricate, and when they explained it to me when I arrived, my voice got high and pitchy, I suddenly got very thirsty, and I suddenly needed to pee A LOT. “Maybe this is what it’s like to get buried alive…” I thought at one point. But thankfully I remembered that I can breathe. And that I can choose my thoughts. And that all those meditation apps I did during the pandemic really did paid off. 🧘🏻♀️
I stayed in a deep meditative state for the whole process and came out of it feeling like I had just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
Yeah …
It was SO FREAKING COOL.”
