Recall petitions launched against Alberta MLAs Peter Guthrie and Marie Renaud
After a flurry of recall petitions against Alberta politicians filed late last year, Elections Alberta has approved the first of 2026: one to recall Airdrie-Cochrane MLA and Progressive Tory Party Leader Peter Guthrie, and another against NDP MLA for St. Albert Marie Renaud.

Former MLA who switched to PCs admits he took Liberal Party information

Fred Tilley, Progressive Conservative candidate for the Cape Breton riding of Northside-Westmount admits he took information from the Liberals before he switched parties last month.

He was the Liberal MLA for the constituency, but crossed the floor to join the PCs just before Premier Tim Houston called a provincial election.

On Tuesday, Tilley told CBC’s Information Morning Cape Breton that as a Liberal at the time, it was his information to take. [emphasis added]

This just confirms what I already knew. The #UCP are in this for their own ends. From this survey it’s clear that their goals are not wanted by the majority of Albertans. We’ve been manipulated. I hate being used and I’ll never forget this. I think the UCP may be banging in the final nails in the coffin of the old #progressiveconservativeparty.
