When I was in collage in the #1980s, "they" moved #MLKDay to July to make the #4thOfJuly holiday a 4 day weekend.
Many of the #professors didn't like that and said that they just wouldn't hold class that day.
Then the school administration decreed that they had to hold class and take attendance that day AND that an unexcused absence must negatively effect the grade.
So there were few classes the Friday before the holiday.

I wish #tenure and #tenuretrack #academic #faculty in R1s who constantly complain about their job would all quit. As someone who has spent significant time in private industry and would love to spend the rest of their #career #teaching and doing #research, it's one of the most frustrating things to hear. Please stop telling me how awful your high status, privileged job is.
