How Leaders Sequence Metric Reform to Build Momentum

Your team tracked page views per session for two years. The number correlated with purchase intent, and every quarterly review referenced it. Then the product added a comparison feature and browsing behavior changed. Page views kept climbing while conversion stayed flat. The metric was still green on the dashboard. It just stopped telling the story everyone believed it was telling. That moment, where a familiar number decouples from the outcome it was supposed to predict, is where most […]

I'm being hyperbolic, I know exactly what the #cyber #resiliance #act means, and its - in general - a great idea. Go #EU (now tackle right to repair)
But because we have no #technical #productmanager (only the #customer facing $$-centric ones), we have no advocate for things like proper architecture, sw quality, ease of deployment and maintainability, a LOT of which would have gone quite a ways to helping our #CRA response.
"...for a product team to be entrusted and empowered, it's essential that the product team, and especially the #ProductManager, be perceived as not only understanding the overall objective of the company, but as sincerely committed to doing everything in her power to help the company succeed." https://learning.oreilly.com/library/view/empowered/9781119691297/c20.xhtml#:-:text=for%20a%20product%20team%20to%20be%20,help%20the%20company%20succeed.

Why Your Dashboard Stays Noisy: The Accumulation Asymmetry Behind Metric Overload

Removing a metric from the dashboard means navigating who requested it, whether the person proposing removal is implying the original decision was wrong, and what happens if something goes wrong in the area the metric was supposed to monitor. Each of those conversations takes more organizational energy than the single decision that put the number on the dashboard in the first place, and that asymmetry is the root cause of noisy dashboards. It explains why smart teams end up tracking a hundred […]

"Empowered product teams are predicated on trust—especially the #ProductManager having earned the trust of the executives. When a #ProductManager appears unprepared or naive in front of the executives, that trust is diminished, and it will take a long time to regain it." https://learning.oreilly.com/library/view/empowered/9781119691297/c18.xhtml#:-:text=Empowered%20product%20teams%20a,a%20long%20time%20to%20regain%20it.

"The #ProductManager is not there to “gather requirements” from stakeholders, but the product manager is also not there to dictate solutions to stakeholders. Rather, the strong #ProductManager understands that each stakeholder is responsible for some key aspect of the business, and they are a key partner in helping to come up with a solution that works." https://learning.oreilly.com/library/view/-/9781119691297/c17.xhtml#:-:text=The%20product%20manager%20is%20no,th%20a%20solution%20that%20works.
