Here’s my contribution to this week’s Disquiet Junto, posted here and on lines. The prompt was to use both field recording and feedback in a new track.
I thought this was a good reason to break out my Sennheiser Ambeo binaural headset, which includes mics in each ear piece; it approximates what we hear naturally. I bought it maybe eight months ago, but hadn’t taken it out of the box yet. Silly me.
I decided to record two five-minute segments of me walking around in my backyard and use one for the track.
For feedback, I decided to self-patch the Erica Black Dual VCF and run it into a Lyra8-FX, and fiddle with the resonance and cutoff.
I also made use of a Slinky that was sitting on the desk, and some prepared guitar. Both recorded via a Zoom H4nPro.
In Reaper, I used a couple Michael Norris FX, along with R4 reverb, Saturn 2, EQ, compression and PHA-979. Mixed for small speakers, mastered in Ozone.
