Morning Mist Rising

I woke before dawn and walked to the meadow at the valley’s edge, drawn by some intuition I couldn’t name. The air hung thick with moisture, and as the first grey light touched the eastern sky, I realized the entire valley was filled with fog – a solid white mass that erased all detail, turning the familiar landscape into abstraction. I found a boulder at the meadow’s edge and settled there to wait, though I wasn’t sure what I was waiting for.

Echo Canyon

The trail descended into a narrow gorge where red rock walls rose sheer on both sides, smooth and sculpted by ancient water. The path followed a dry streambed, sand and smooth stones underfoot, and the walls leaned inward, creating a roof of sky that seemed impossibly distant. Sound behaved strangely here – my footsteps echoed and re-echoed, bouncing between the walls until they became something other than footsteps, a rhythm that seemed to come from the canyon itself.
