Digital autonomy ?

"Australia’s digital policy shouldn’t be dictated by large platforms or external geopolitical actors."

"The “digital sovereignty” movement in the European Union (EU) can show us the way. European countries are gradually breaking up with American tech giants and pushing for local AI development, all in the name of achieving digital autonomy."

"The ultimate goal here is digital autonomy. It means reducing reliance on systems vulnerable to growing geopolitical and economic risks. If you make your own devices and host your data locally, you’re not at the mercy of multinational corporations whose interests may not align with your own."

"Decentralised social media ecosystems allow independently operated communities to communicate across shared protocols without being controlled by a single corporation. One such example is the Fediverse, which includes platforms like micro-blogging site Mastodon and video sharing site PeerTube." >>

Federated Networks (The Fediverse):

But in Bellingen, NSW they are clinging to foreign owned platforms. Here communication communicates via facebook or its is not. (Could be a Niklas Luhmann quote)

Nearly everything we use online is owned by big tech. There’s a better way forward

Having digital autonomy is more important than ever, and the European Union is showing how it can be done.

“…everything we do is also geopolitical…”

Can’t remember who (sorry!) suggested this ‘Why little Lithuania has big plans for space tech’ article by MaryLou Costa (published by the BBC - British Broadcasting Corporation, link below) but I was struck by Dominykas Milasius’ concluding statement:

‘ "And everything we do is also geopolitical… we have to build up critical value offerings, sciences and other critical technologies, to make our allies understand that it's probably good to protect Lithuania." ‘

Wondering what it is that any country, or group of countries, has to offer allies/ potential allies; or specifically what the US has (left) to offer? 😐

Space technology: Lithuania's promising space start-ups

Lithuania has a promising space tech sector, but it wants more government support.

Totally agree & think this shift in power (biggest losers being commercial old media) needs to be explored more… it’s a big change in some thinking (some previously set-in-cement assumptions that have conditioned a lot of actions). John Quiggin refers to it as: “the exposure of Newscorp as a paper tiger”.

Somebody (I forget who) asked me about that Dr. David Smail quote the other day. I brought up the Adverse Childhood Experience Study (ACE). Well, here is this also. It's only 9 minutes and really good.
