Traditional pre-World War One red sandstone tenement on Springburn Road in the north of Glasgow left stranded by post-World War Two road development. While such developments made it easier for those living in surrounding suburbs to access the centre of Glasgow by car, they did little for the communities through which they passed.

St Teresa of Lisieux Church on Saracen Street in the Possilpark area of Glasgow. Designed by Alexander McAnally and built in 1956, this Romanesque church has a very similar modernist look to those of Jack Coia.

By the 1940s, 20 million packets, all made in this factory, were being sold each year around the world. In the 1970s, they ramped up their advertsing with an advert featuring the Miseries, cartoon characters drawn by Roger Hargreeves, the creator of the Mr Men, and featuring the slogan 'Askit fights the Miseries'. Running unchanged until the mid-1990s, this was one of Britain's longest running and most successful advertaing campaigns.

The former Askit factory on Saracen Street in the Possilpark area of Glasgow. Designed by William B. Whitie, it was built in the 1930s. Invented by the Glasweigian pharmacist Adam Laidlaw in the late 1890s, Askit Powder contained a mix aspirin, phenacetin and caffeine, and was sold as a cure-all for many types of minor ailments such as headaches and colds.

This collection of rather weird and wonderful sculpted heads are carved onto the corbels of decorative arches over the entrances to a series of tenement closes on Killearn Street in the Possilpark area of Glasgow. As far as I know they're unique and I've not come across any simlar ones on other tenements elsewhere in the city (yet!).

I love the little architectural details on this tenement on Killearn Street in the Possilpark area of Glasgow. In particular, I like the asymmetrical and opposing positioning of the close entrance and the chimney, as well as the simply decorated Roman arch over the doorway. There's also some rather wonderly little carvings on the corbels on either side of the door as well.
