The two most common #woodlice in Central Europe in deadwood in #Berlin: #Porcellio #scaber and #Oniscus #asellus, #detritusfeeders. Both originate from Western Europe and appear as neozoa e.g. in America. Their #ecologicalrequirements differ: O. asellus tolerates #drought better. P. Zidar et al. (2003) found in choicetests that O. asellus properly #detects #foodqualities, which might be of #hygienic applied interest.

It's #WoodlouseWednesday and I'm sick with a cold after visiting my family for the first time in years...
Found this 'albino' Porcellionides pruinosus in their compost bin, among many friends. The largest inhabitants of the compost were Porcellio laevis.
It's #WoodlouseWednesday ! Some captive-bred Porcellio sp. from Imi Ouaddar, Morocco.
I'm trading #isopods with another EU friend soon and need to decide on a locality name before I send them off. I need input.
How likely is it that foreign people will think my Porcellio scaber "Brittany" are from Britain, or named after Britney Spears, rather than from the Brittany region of France? Should I use "Breizh" or "Bretagne" for the locality instead? This is a polymorphic wildtype from the area, not a linebred morph project.
It's #WoodlouseWednesday ! Another Porcellio scaber from my locality bin.
It's #WoodlouseWednesday ! Some cute Porcellio scaber from the garden.
It's #WoodlouseWednesday ! Let's take a look at these Porcellio incanus for a moment.
