Growing up in the UK, Wimpy's seemed like the sad, decaying also-ran of burger chains that soon died a well-deserved death

Then 1 night in Tokyo in the early 90s, I walked around a corner into the main square of the Ginza to be blinded by a brightly-lit, glass-walled 4-storey monument full of people

"WTF? That's a WIMPY's?! Wimpy still exists here? And it's massive, too?!"

Today I learned that Popeye was originally in the Coast Guard (black uniform shirt) until the outbreak of WWII when he joined the Navy in 1941 and switched to the all white uniform
