My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

Here's a study of Kingnites, commissioned in 2022 for a project I cannot talk about yet. Kingnites, is an exceptionally large (1m long) Silurian polychaete annelid.

No two #worms are alike: New study confirms that even the simplest marine organisms tend to be individualistic https://www.awi.de/en/about-us/service/press/single-view/kein-wurm-tickt-wie-der-andere.html

Molecular #CircadianRhythms are robust in marine #annelids lacking rhythmic behavior https://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.3002572

"even simple marine #polychaete worms shape their day-to-day lives on the basis of highly individual rhythms. This diversity is of interest not just for the future of species and populations in a changing environment, but also for medicine."

Apologies to Trypophobes out there.

A close up of the burrows constructed by Honeycomb worms (Sabellaria alveolata) - each grain of sand, in what can be extensive reef structures, is carefully placed. County Clare, Ireland.

A stunning Terebellidae worm dances under the microscope. It uses its many tentacles to grab food and they’re usually hidden in sediment, rock crevices, or in this case, in a sponge sample I brought home to ID.

Many tentacles make light work…

Nature is so amazing! These are the branchiae (gills) of a marine polychaete worm (a Terebellidae I think). This is how they breath!

A little polychaete worm larva shimmying under the irritating flashing LED bulb of my microscope (which needs changing or there’s a connection loose?). Still cute though.
