'Even in those economies with lower historical and per capita emissions, there is a significant gap between most of the population’s emissions and the highest emitters. The economist Lucas Chancel finds that “carbon inequality” is greater within countries than between them, and that it tracks inequalities in income and wealth.'

Taxing Polluters Is the Key to Climate Justice | by Laurence Tubiana - Project Syndicate

Laurence Tubiana makes the case for new levies to finance green investments in developing countries.

But as I keep saying, I agree with Better Public Media that a tax on digital advertising - applied across the board rather than targeting specific actors - is the best model (involving the state) I've come across so far.

As well as creating a funding pool for public interest media, it would discourage ad-based digital business models. Think of it as a pollution tax for the mediasphere.

Even states can't hold fossil fuel companies liable for pollution:

"Judge Alsup’s primary rationale for dismissal was that the courts are not the proper place to deal with such global issues as determining rights and assigning responsibility for the damages caused by fossil fuel use. Rather, such matters should be addressed by the executive and legislative branches of government and not the judiciary."

“Carbon taxation, coupled with appropriate intergenerational redistribution, can make all current and future generations better off. Indeed, it can make them uniformly better off.”

Polluters have shifted the cost of their behavior onto everyone else. We have to stand up to them and put a stop their cost-shifting. We need accountability. People -- and especially corporations -- need to pay for the harms they cause the rest of us.

This morning while I was in the shower the air suddenly and completely filled with the smell of toxic diesel exhaust. Opening the shower curtain the air was no better, and I hopped out to discover it had filled my bedroom too. I ran, dripping water everywhere, to the window fan that was pulling in the air and turned it off, then evacuated to the kitchen where the air was better.

Today once again Delhi woke up with a thick blanket of smog. The pollutants are so mild that they can dissolve in the blood stream and cause irreversible changes in human bodies. How did this situation become so worse ?

Explained | What has Delhi done over the decades to combat air pollution?

How far back does Delhi’s air pollution problem go? What policy measures have been taken over the decades?

Big Oil have had decades to both prepare for & adapt to 'Green' energy. They could have been at the forefront of developing alternative energy sources: they have the resources & the skills, but not the will or the motivation, only paying lip service to any climate effects of pollution. Companies that make profits through exploitation of either people or the environment need to pay for the consequences of their actions. We need a #PollutionTax NOW.
