Suing the European Commission because of an agreement giving the European Parliament, a body directly elected by EU citizens, more powers and equal treatment in legislative process is against democratic values.

The European Parliament, in fact, should have more powers and stronger position in lawmaking. This would increase the trust within the EU as the public prefers elected representatives to have more say. Moreover, more transparent lawmaking process and increased role of the EP regarding international agreements is another positive development.

Healthy democracy requires balance of powers and prerogatives as well as taking steps to strengthen public trust in EU institutions. https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-countries-threaten-take-commission-court-giving-parliament-extra-powers/

Letter shows that EU capitals are particularly annoyed about a Commission promise to ensure Council and Parliament get “equal treatment” in the legislative process.

Wish we had an overview like this for every country! How sustainable are our universities and research organizations?

Which initiatives are there (e.g. on replacing plastics in the lab)? And which are ignored?

Where could small investments save bigger money (and could come up for bigger investments)?

Lets Rethink Housing: Surely we can do something now? Without new laws?
Say we’ve agreed on a better housing system.

#Warsh might surprise us all by showing unexpected integrity, but don’t count on it. He may be better than the alternatives, but that’s a very low bar, which mainly tells us how sorry a state #economicpolicymaking — actually, #policymaking of any kind — has reached in the age of #Trump.”

Across drugs, sex work, migration, and punishment, the same pattern kept repeating.

This post steps back to ask what all of that was really about — and what happens when morality and evidence drift apart in policy-making.
