Great post by @thanosapollo about #Emacs and #Jabber/#XMPP:

https://thanosapollo.org/posts/emacs-jabber-revival/

"Now, jabber.el is the most XEP-complete text-based client in existence."

#mcabber, #poezio, and #profanity get a tough time, I guess.

"Emacs is not just the editor I write jabber.el in. It is the runtime, the test harness, and the application.

I develop in the same instance where I chat. Fix a bug, eval changes, and the fix is live in my running session. Seconds, not minutes."

Life has meaning, again!

Bringing jabber.el Back From the Dead

jabber.el is an XMPP client for Emacs, originally written in 2003. Development slowed over the years, though contributors kept the package working across Emacs releases. I took over as maintainer with the goal of modernizing the protocol support. Now, jabber.el is the most XEP-complete text-based client in existence. What Changed For those, like me, who count XEPs like Pokemon: OMEMO encryption (XEP-0384) via a C dynamic module wrapping picomemo OMEMO media sharing (XEP-0454) OpenPGP for XMPP (XEP-0373) using Emacs’ built-in EPG Stream Management (XEP-0198) with session resume Message Archive Management (XEP-0313) Message Carbons (XEP-0280) Delivery Receipts (XEP-0184) and Chat Markers (XEP-0333) Message Correction (XEP-0308), Replies (XEP-0461), Moderation (XEP-0424/0425) Chat State Notifications (XEP-0085) Client State Indication (XEP-0352) Blocking Command (XEP-0191) HTTP File Upload (XEP-0363) Direct TLS (XEP-0368) with dual SRV lookup Real Time Text (XEP-0301) PubSub (XEP-0060) Bookmarks (XEP-0402 with XEP-0048 fallback) SQLite message storage replacing flat-file history MUC Self-Ping (XEP-0410) Almost caught them all

I released yesterday version 0.16 of Poezio, a terminal XMPP client, here is the blog post with a release announcement: https://blog.mathieui.net/poezio-0-16.html

Some nice bugfixes (thanks @ge0rg for testing), and finally handling of message moderation & retraction.

Note: the fact that we very often share version numbers with @profanity is a pure coincidence!

Poezio 0.16

Jeez, building #poezio from #AUR — be it poezio or poezio-git — is a nightmare of missing dependencies and failing build scripts (at least if you also want the #OMEMO plugin). I guess I will just keep using #gajim for now.
@debacle Thanks for suggesting #poezio. It supports #OMEMO, and theme-wise, it will fit right in next to #mutt / #neomutt, #jed, and #midnightCommander. 😻

Mi pensas pri koktelo kaj memoras la plej malbona angla poeto "William topaz McGonagal" kaj lia fama poemo "The Tay bridge disaster" ( Jen angla/skota https://www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poem/tay-bridge-disaster/)
Kaj mia koktelo "Silv'ry Tay) ĝi en havas viskion, tajbero kaj iom da sukero.

for some reason #profanity makes an c abort when I try to connect to #disroot xmpp server. I thought that it was the server because #disroot hahaha but I noticed that is profanity aborts for some reason. I don't know and honestly I don't want to deep it in for the moment, probably is a good opportunty to try #poezio now that they fixed the omemo dependencies issues.

Maybe you should define what you're looking for. In some cases #Gajim might fit better, in others #Dino. But if you'd e.g. prefer #TUI programs you might like #poezio or #profanity.
