Petit lézard avec une longue queue fine ; tête peu distincte du cou ; présence de quatre membres bien visibles munis de griffes aux doigts et orteils.
La peau est constituée sur le dos d'écailles finement perlées à peine visibles à l'œil nu.
La coloration globale est marron plus ou moins prononcé à gris, avec chez le mâle des marbrures sombres sur les flancs et souvent également sur le dos. Chez les femelles, les marbrures sont moins marquées et laissent place à des lignes claires plus ou moins bien dessinées.
Le ventre est toujours blanchâtre chez les femelles et très souvent chez les mâles.
Certains mâles présentent toutefois une coloration ventrale différente, allant du jaune au rouge brique en passant par l'orange.
