It will soon be blossom season in Japan!
By far the most famous of Japanese blossoms are cherry blossoms, but they're not the first spring flower to bloom.
Plum blossom usually start appearing as early as mid-February. Although not as dramatic as the more-famous cherry blossoms, they are well-loved for their subtle beauty.

Exercising daily outdoors in all weather, I've also been sniffing the fragrant white plum blossoms, particularly at the castle ruins park down the street. Lately it has been colder than in many years here between Ōsaka and Kyōto. There hasn't been any snow to speak of, so when it finally snowed yesterday, I rushed to capture the rare sight of season-mixing snow on the plum blossoms.
